19-year-old taken to Harborview Medical Center after crash near Sagle

A 19-year-old woman was taken to a Seattle hospital with life-threatening injuries after crashing her car into an oncoming semi truck late Wednesday near Sagle, Idaho. Casey N. Thomas of Coeur d’Alene was driving south on U.S. Highway 95 shortly before midnight when her Jeep Grand Cherokee veered into the northbound lane, striking the driver’s side of a semi truck, according to the Idaho State Police. The ISP said Thomas’ SUV “was launched off the west shoulder of the highway and overturned.” The scene covered a quarter mile of roadway and lanes were blocked for four and a half hours. Thomas initially was taken to Kootenai Health. A spokeswoman there said Thomas was listed in critical condition and transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. She had not been wearing a seat belt, according to the ISP. The driver of the semi truck was not injured. The crash is still under investigation.
