Iran agreement beats war

This agreement with Iran will halt development of an atomic weapon for the next decade and prevent our involvement in yet another Middle East war. The “no deal” with continued sanctions alternative Joseph Harari (“Centrist needed for president” – July 31) offers would not stop or even slow down Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter, backed by our military leaders, has testified that successful implementation of the agreement would be better than taking military action because a strike would be temporary and likely would make Iran “irreconcilably resigned” to getting a nuclear weapon.

As a veteran, I stand with the president who, rather than being a “divider,” will find his plan accepted by the American people. And this success in international relations will stand along with the Affordable Health Care Act, which is providing health coverage to millions of additional Americans, and with efforts to counter climate change and combat criminal injustice as lasting achievements of his administration.
