Area women’s college soccer teams go 3-0-1 in openers

Washington State scored three first-half goals and took a 3-1 victory over host Seattle University as area women’s soccer teams open their seasons on Friday night.

Susie White and Grace Hancock scored in the opening 10 minutes, both off corner kicks from Kaitlyn Johnson, and Tia Gavin added another goal in the 39th minute for a 3-0 lead.

The Cougars led in shots on goal 11-4.

Eastern Washington 2, UTEP 1: Devan Talley’s goal at 81:06 lifted the Eagles to a win over the Miners in El Paso, Texas. Chloe Williams scored at 33:24 for EWU to tie the match after the Miners scored in the 24th minute. EWU had 12 shots on goal to UTEP’s seven.

Idaho 3, Indiana State 1: The Vandals scored three second-half goals to overcome the Sycamores at Missoula. Kayla Watanabe, Elexis Schlossarek and Reagan Quigley scored for Idaho after the Sycamores got their only goal just 2:29 into the match.

Gonzaga 1, Nevada 1: The Bulldogs opened with a 1-1 tie against the host Wolfpack in Reno. The Bulldogs picked up their goal at 18:29 on an own goal. Nevada tied the match 44 seconds before halftime. Gonzaga had nine shots on goal to Nevada’s three.
