U.S. resources exploited
David Bauer didn’t go far enough in his Aug. 19 letter (“Protect energy sources”). How is it that the very few get rich cutting down, digging up and drilling? I will also add that foreign companies are doing this. Why aren’t these resources sold for the benefit of U.S. citizens? The logs cut down in the Northwest are put on a boat to China. China makes, say, your TV stand. It is put back on a boat and shipped back here to be used. Then, after the stand’s useful life, it’s thrown in a U.S. landfill.
Coal mined in Wyoming is put on trains, shipped through Spokane to the coast and burned in China to manufacture the TV stand. So shills for the big capitalists can come through your multinationalist TV and can tell you your government isn’t working for you. Because it’s not, it’s working for big capitalism.
Small capitalism is Main Street local businesses. The power to your TV is produced in part by nuclear power plants. There are more solar jobs in California than at all the nuclear plants in the United States. How good can nuclear be if we are still having to deal with Little Boy and Fat Man waste?
This is our current trend. Trends change. Call or email your legislators. They love to hear from you. How come capitalism has always succeeded? Because it gets bailed out by socialism. P.S. Soon, the two biggest pork producers will be owned by Chinese and Brazilian companies.
