Two Eugene pitchers combine to one-hit Spokane Indians

EUGENE – Wednesday marked the second time the Spokane Indians have been held to one hit in a Northwest League baseball game this season.

Unlike the previous time, Spokane didn’t come away with a victory.

Oscar De La Cruz (6-3) and Greyfer Eregua combined to check the Indians on Diego Cedeno’s sixth-inning single as the Eugene Emeralds defeated Spokane 4-1 at PK Park.

De La Cruz struck out 13 and walked one in seven innings. Eregua struck out two to earn his second save.

Tri-City also one-hit the Indians on July 27, but Spokane managed to scrape together a 1-0 victory.

The Indians have been held to four hits or fewer in nine games this season, including the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader, when the Emeralds limited Spokane to three hits over seven innings.

Spokane generated its run in the fifth, despite striking out four times. A wild pitch, two stolen bases and a passed ball allowed Dylan Moore to score.

Spokane is 11-16 for the season’s second half. Eugene (17-11) leads the South Division by one game.

The final game of the series is set for 7:05 tonight.

The Indians return home at 5 p.m. Friday for a doubleheader with Vancouver.
