NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Former Freeman High School tennis player Maya Jansen, who is a two-time NCAA doubles national champion at Alabama, won a match Friday to qualify for the 2015 U.S. Open.

Jansen and Erin Routliffe defeated Yasmin Schnack and Katsiaryna Zheltova 6-4, 7-5 Friday in the U.S. Open National Playoffs women’s doubles championship. The U.S. Open will be played from Monday through Sept. 13 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.

“This entire experience has been amazing and the fact that we are leaving tomorrow for the U.S. Open is remarkable,” Jansen said, according to a news release. “We could not be more honored to represent Alabama at this level.”

The Alabama teammates are coming off of their second consecutive NCAA doubles championship in 2015. Jansen and Routliffe were the first doubles team to repeat as champions since 1998-99.

The All-American duo turned in an overall record of 32-4 in 2014-15, the most wins by a doubles pairing in the history of the Alabama women’s tennis program. Jansen and Routliffe own a two-year record of 57-8, already the third-best mark in Crimson Tide women’s tennis history.
