The Slice: Best moves that day came from Michael

No, we’re not done with stories of short-distance moves.

“We moved directly across the street on Jan. 31, 1993,” wrote Kendall Eminger. “We shoveled a path three feet wide from the old driveway through the snow to the new driveway. A dozen neighbors volunteered to carry boxes as long as the move was completed by noon because moving day was also Super Bowl 27 day. The Bills lost to the Cowboys 52-17 and Michael Jackson was the halftime entertainer.”

Not long after that, two feet of snow fell. “We haven’t moved since. We don’t want to tempt fate.”

And Kay Krom shared this.

“Before hospital births became the norm, my husband was actually born in the family’s farm house. As a young man of about 14, he moved from the old house with his widowed mother and two sisters into the newly built home on the property, about 70 yards away. Eight years later he packed up his things and moved back to the old house with his new bride.

“Some 20 years later he moved once again to the ‘new’ house when his mom moved to town. (Even though it is 66 years old now, we still consider it the ‘new’ house!) I am thinking that his three combined moves didn’t amount to much more than a couple of hundred yards.”

Lake life (that sinking feeling): “My wife just put a good slathering of sunscreen on and was getting ready for a swim off the boat,” wrote Bob Perry. “Last thing is to take off the jewelry so it doesn’t fall off in the water. Well, of course, her wedding ring slipped out of her fingers, bounced twice and literally jumped off the stern. We have the coordinates marked on the GPS and are currently seeking a diver to recover it. Know anyone? Yup, there’s a reward.”

Re: Tuesday’s Slice and adjusting your pants: For years now, Bob Briggs has owned a leather punch. He has used it to add holes to his belt when the existing notches created a fit that was too loose or too tight.

“My belt is littered with holes between holes,” he said.
