Little League: Tokyo won the Little League World Series on Sunday, pounding out 22 hits and overcoming an eight-run first-inning deficit to beat Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, 18-11 in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The Kitasuna Little League team, winners in 2001 and 2012, gave Japan its 10th title.

Pennsylvania scored 10 times and sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first after falling behind 2-0. But Japan, which had given up a total of 10 runs in the tournament, responded with seven runs in the second, four in the third inning and five in the sixth.

Masafuji Nishijima had four hits and six RBIs, and Shingo Tomita hit two home runs.

Tokyo’s third pitcher, Nobuyuki Kawashima, held Pennsylvania in check most of the game, giving up just one run and two hits over five innings.

• Texas beats Mexico 6-4 in consolation game: Issac Garcia hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to help Pearland, Texas, beat Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, 6-4 in the consolation game of the Little League World Series.

Jarrett Tadlock, who got the win in relief of Garcia, struck out Raul Leon with two on and two outs in the bottom of the inning.

Leon hit his third and fourth home runs of the tournament in his first two at-bats. Gerardo Lujano also homered for Mexico.

Raffi Gross had a two-run homer for Texas, which managed just four hits off Mexican pitchers Jose Reyes and Gerardo Lujano.

This was Pearland’s third appearance in the Little League World Series since 2010, and Mexicali’s fourth since 2005.

Froome jumped ahead with less than 200 meters to go but couldn’t hold off the Dutchman’s late charge for his first stage victory in this year’s Vuelta.

• Rossi retakes sole lead in MotoGP standings with win: Valentino Rossi won the British Grand Prix in wet conditions in Silverstone, England, to reclaim the outright lead in the MotoGP championship, with Marc Marquez crashing out in another blow to his title defense.

Rossi, a seven-time world champion, finished in 46 minutes, 15.617 seconds on his Movistar Yamaha at the Silverstone circuit in central England for his fourth victory of the season. The Italian tops the standings on 236 points, a lead of 12 from Jorge Lorenzo after the teammates began the race tied for points.

• Russia wins again at volleyball World Cup: Unbeaten Russia kept up its ruthless form at the women’s volleyball World Cup in Sendai, Japan, beating South Korea 25-20, 26-24, 25-22 to remain at the top of the rankings with 17 points.

U.S. is hot on Russia’s heels and claimed its fourth consecutive straight-sets win, downing Kenya 25-15, 25-16, 25-13 in Okayama.

That victory leaves Karch Kiraly’s team just one point adrift in second.
