Officer involved shooting investigation completed

The investigation into a recent officer involved shooting of a domestic violence suspect in Hillyard has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review.

Jason M. Smith, 36, was shot outside his father’s home at 4118 E. Longfellow on Oct. 12 after he allegedly ignored police commands to get out of his truck and rammed two police cars. The department identified the officers involved as Senior Officer Christopher McMurtrey and Officers Joseph Matt and Stanley Stadelman.

The investigation into the shooting was led by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Office spokesman Deputy Mark Gregory said Smith is still unable to be interviewed about the incident.

“The guy is still receiving medical treatment,” Gregory said. “That’s why he’s not arrested or charged.”
