5 officers in August shooting not charged

The Spokane County Prosecutors office announced Monday that it will not charge five Spokane Police officers involved in the Aug. 8 shooting death of Kevin L. McDaniel at a home in north Spokane.

McDaniel was suspected of stealing cars and had a federal warrant for his arrest. The police followed him to a home at 616 E. Sanson Ave., eventually surrounding the home and leading to an hour-long standoff.

After roughly an hour McDaniel fired at the police, ultimately exiting the house while still firing. He was shot numerous times and died of multiple gunshot wounds. A loaded .25 caliber semiautomatic pistol was found near his body, according to the news release.
