Weather any storm

Your English correspondent, “Bury the power lines (Dec. 2),” clearly does not understand the rugged American character. So what if the trees and power lines come down with ever-increasing frequency? We will hunker down, weather the storm and clean up the mess, no matter what the cost.

Sure, it’s inconvenient and occasionally dangerous when the lights go out. But must we have every modern convenience handed to us on a plate? No. Let’s go out, brave the elements, band together and overcome in spite of what Mother Nature throws at us.

And as the planet goes spiraling down the toilet with continuing wars, terrorism, catastrophic climate destabilization, etc., we Americans will stand up and fight to the very last man or woman. That’s what this country is all about.
