Area roundup: Idaho Vandals women fall to Texas Tech

Japreece Dean tossed in a game-high 23 points and Ivonne Cook-Taylor added a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds to power the Texas Tech Red Raiders (6-1) to a 78-62 nonconference victory over the Idaho Vandals (7-2) in Lubbock, Texas, on Wednesday.

Renae Mokrzycki came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor for the Vandals. Christina Salvatore added 11 points and six rebounds and Ali Forde snagged a team-high eight boards to go with nine points.

Idaho had a rough first quarter when it fell behind 20-6, but the Vandals stayed within two points through the final three quarters.

Honors

Gonzaga women’s cross country standout Shelby Mills was named the West Coast Conference runner of the month for the second time.

The senior placed seventh at the NCAA West Regionals and helped Gonzaga to its first appearance at the NCAA National Championships.

– Idaho Vandals junior kicker/punter Austin Rehkow, a Central Valley High graduate, and senior defensive end Quinton Bradley were named to the All-Sun Belt Conference first team.

Rehkow is the punter for the first team and the placekicker for the second team. Bradley finished third in the conference for tackles for a loss this season with 15.

Senior RB Elijhaa Penny, junior TE Buck Cowan, sophomore QB Matt Linehan and sophomore OL Jordan Rose received honorable mention.
