WSU’s Graham Harrell hired by North Texas as offensive coordinator

Graham Harrell

PULLMAN – Washington State outside receivers coach Graham Harrell will become the new offensive coordinator at the University of North Texas, according to multiple reports.

Harrell came to WSU in the spring of 2014 after finishing his NFL career to work for the Cougars coaching staff as an offensive analyst. He was promoted to full-time assistant coach last February once former WSU outside receivers coach Dennis Simmons took a position at Oklahoma.

The outside receivers blossomed under Harrell’s tutelage this year, with junior Gabe Marks making a run at the Biletnikoff Award, finishing as a semifinalist, and Dom Williams collecting 997 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

In addition to coaching WSU’s outside receivers, Harrell spent time working with the team’s quarterbacks. He also sat in the booth on game days and was in frequent communication with head coach Mike Leach.

At North Texa,s Harrell will work under new head coach Seth Littrell, a former assistant under WSU coach Mike Leach at Texas Tech. Littrell was the running backs coach from 2005-2008, years overlapping Harrell’s stint as the Red Raiders quarterback.

FootballScoop.com, which first reported the Harrell news, also reports that WSU quality control assistant Joel Filani will join Littrell and Harrell as Mean Green’s receivers coach. Filani played wide receiver at TTU under Leach from 2003-2006.
