Prep wrestling: Moses Lake claims Inland Empire Classic; Colville takes second

Despite having just one weight-class champion, Moses Lake claimed the team title at the Inland Empire Classic Saturday at Cenral Valley.

Moses Lake’s Hunter Garland-Cruz defeated Coeur d’Alene’s Dylan Lockwood 3-1 for 138-pound title. Colville had four weight-class champions and took second place. The Indians’ Trevor Morrison (113 pounds), Trent Baun (120) T.J. Baun (120) and Ryley Smith (160) all claimed individual titles.

Central Valley was third, followed by University and Sandpoint. Twenty teams competed.

Other area weight-class champions included Central Valley’s Bryson Beard (132) and Breadon Orrino (145), Mead’s Trevor Senn (170), Sandpoint’s Casey Randles (182), Lakeland’s Jared Walker (195) and Cheney’s Michael Ferguson (220).

Shadle Park wins West Valley tournament

Shadle Park went 5-0 and won the eight-team tournament at West Valley. The Highlanders beat Medical Lake, Lakeside, Coeur d’Alene, Mead and defending State 1A champion Freeman. Shadle Park had four undefeated wrestlers: Bryden Uyehara, Andreas Wilson, Jake Doyle and T.J. Trout.

Shadle Park is 7-0 and will be competing against Gonzaga Prep and Ferris next week.
