Boise State’s Pahukoa too much for Eastern women

Brooke Pahukoa scored a career-high 30 points and Boise State made 10 of 12 free throws in the final three minutes to hold off Eastern Washington 84-79 in a nonconference victory at Reece Court.

Miquelle Askew had 17 of her 19 in the second half and Shalen Shaw added 16 and 13 rebounds for the Broncos (7-4), who finished 24 of 28 from the foul line.

Hayley Hodgins led the Eagles (6-6) with 27 points. Ashli Payne had 15 of her 19 in the second half and Delaney Hodgins had 18. Eastern was 16 of 22 from the line, 14 of 18 in the second half when the Eagles shot 14 of 23 from the field (61 percent).

The Broncos led 37-36 at the half as Pahukoa scored 20 points and built and 11 point lead in the third quarter before the Eagles battled back to close within 62-57.

Eastern starts Big Sky Conference play at home against Northern Colorado on New Year’s Eve. Tip-off is 3 p.m.
