Prairie High honors Hunt

From Local And Wire Reports

Shannon Wyckoff Hunt, Washington State volleyball assistant coach, was one of three inducted into the Prairie High School Hall of Fame on Thursday in Brush Prairie, Washington.

Hunt, a 1994 graduate of Prairie, had a distinguished volleyball career that included being named the State 3A Player of the Year three consecutive years on a Falcons team that finished fourth in the three straight years. She was the first four-time all-league selection in the history of the Greater St. Helens League. Prairie also won the State 3A Academic title her senior year.

After graduation, Hunt played at WSU, helping the Cougars to four straight NCAA Championship tournament appearances that included making it to the Elite Eight in 1996 and the Sweet 16 in 1997. She was the third player in WSU history to reach 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career and also collected several academic honors.

Hunt graduated from WSU with an education degree in 1998, and taught and coached in the Vancouver, Washington, area for a dozen years, including a stint at Prairie from 2000-2003 where she took the Falcons to two state tournament appearances.

Nordic skiing

For a second straight year, Mt. Spokane Cross-Country Ski Park will be the site of a Junior National Qualifier. The third of three races in the 2015 U14 qualifying series will be Feb. 14-15 at Selkirk Lodge on Mount Spokane.

The Spokane Nordic Ski Association stepped up on short notice to host the event when the Kongsberger Ski Club of Cle Elum, which was scheduled to stage the event, had to look for a replacement because of a lack of snow in the Cabin Creek Nordic ski area.
