Vote no on Cheney bond
While I argue less with extending the existing levy to some degree, I am certainly not a fan of the Cheney School District bond. The bond will increase taxes on those in the district and, as the levy demonstrates, once any tax increase is approved, it never goes away.
In a few years, once the bond is paid, there will be some new requirement using the levy logic: “You’re already paying X dollars for the bond so this will not increase your taxes.” Think Convention Center.
Homes are added and evidently sold with new ones started almost every week in Eagle Ridge, all adding to the Cheney district coffers. While some of those homes may be adding students to the rolls, they are adding dollars to the budget.
I suspect some are empty-nesters (like myself) contributing to the budget without adding any expense. So, worst case, the district is getting money with additional students. Best case is it is getting money with no students. Either way, every new home sale in the district garners revenue.
If the bond vote goes through, we get additional expense with no funding. I support education, but I also learn to live within my means.
