Revealed Two-time All-Star guard Paul George said he would like to play this season even though he understands the odds are against him making it back so fast from a gruesome right leg injury. George told reporters that doctors believe his broken leg should be fully healed in the next several weeks. He hopes that will allow him to be cleared for full practices sometime in March.

Hired Florida defensive coordinator and longtime NFL assistant Jon Hoke will join South Carolina as co-defensive coordinator.

• Colorado hired former USF coach Jim Leavitt as its defensive coordinator and Central Michigan defensive coordinator Joe Tumpkin as safeties coach. Leavitt has been linebackers coach with the San Francisco 49ers for the last four seasons.

Agreed Left-hander Wade Miley and the Boston Red Sox agreed to a $19.25 million, three-year contract that avoided salary arbitration. Miley gets a $500,000 signing bonus as part of the agreement and salaries of $3.5 million this year, $6 million in 2016 and $8.75 million in 2017.

Defeated The Miami Marlins defeated pitcher Mat Latos in Major League Baseball’s first salary arbitration case this year that went to a hearing. The 27-year-old right-hander will receive the club’s offer of $9.4 million rather than his request for $10.4 million. Injured Tigers slugger Victor Martinez needs surgery on his left knee after tearing the medial meniscus during his offseason workout program for the second time in four years. Martinez is scheduled for surgery Tuesday with Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Florida. Martinez hit .335 with 32 home runs and 103 RBIs in 2014, and the Tigers signed him to a $68 million, four-year deal after the season.

Fixed Midfielder James Rodriguez’s surgery on a broken bone in his right foot was a success, his Real Madrid club said. The European champion did not say how long it expected him to be sidelined. Rodriguez was hurt after scoring the opening goal in the 2-1 win over Sevilla in the Spanish league on Wednesday.

Posted University of Houston quarterback John O’Korn posted on Twitter that he is transferring to Michigan. O’Korn will have to sit out next season because of NCAA rules and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida, native was the freshman of the year in the American Athletic Conference in 2013, when he threw for 3,117 yards and 28 touchdowns.
