Schools are jewels

Spokane’s public schools are among the crown jewels of our community. On Feb. 10, we need to protect the community’s investment in education by voting yes for both the maintenance and operations levy and the building bond.

The maintenance and operations levy is not a new tax. It replaces an expiring levy that was approved by voters in February 2012. It maintains essential programs that provide value to our students.

The Spokane Public School’s bond is the third phase of a long-range plan to continue replacing or upgrading our community’s school buildings, technology and security. The school district, through a variety of means, asked for and received a large amount of input from the community on what were the most important projects to work on. I have reviewed the long list of planned projects. This is a well thought out plan. The school district will be able to accomplish all of these projects with no increase in the assessed rate per $1,000.

Spokane Public Schools has a proven track record of completing projects on time and within budget. Please join me in voting yes for both the renewal levy and renewal bond.
