That’s News to you answers

Here are the answers to this week’s quiz:

1. C. Spokane International Academy is to be a K-8 school – the second charter authorized by Spokane Public Schools after voters approved charter schools in 2012.

The school will use the Cambridge curriculum that teaches English, math, science and social studies using an international scope. It is designed to encourage students to take what they learn and apply those lessons to world events.

2. D. Officer Lesser and the police dog Rav had responded to a burglary call made by Hernandez and were searching for suspects. Without warning, the dog rounded the corner and bit Hernandez in the stomach and wouldn’t release when commanded to do so, the lawsuit says.

3. B. General Motors was aware of faulty ignition switches on Chevrolet Cobalts and other small cars for more than a decade, but it did not recall them until 2014. On 2.6 million GM vehicles worldwide, the switches can slip out of the “on” position, causing the cars to stall, knocking out power steering and turning off the air bags.

Last year GM set aside $400 million to make payments, but conceded that could grow to $600 million. Compensation for deaths starts at $1 million. GM has placed no cap on the amount of money that can be spent.

4. C. At any given time, 25 to 30 members of the team at Michael Curry Design in Scappoose, Oregon, worked on the Super Bowl project, putting in about 3,500 person-hours. That included the work at the Super Bowl, where the beast was guided by a team of puppeteers led by Oregonians Jarred Kearsley and Sam Perkins.

5. E. Judge Annette Plese sent Adams-Kinard to prison for 20 years. He will serve his time in a juvenile facility until he is 21. Because Adams-Kinard is a minor being tried as an adult, a state law mandating a 20-year minimum sentence for first-degree murder does not apply to him, which means he will also be eligible for early release due to good behavior.
