Shockers in Arizona alter look
Upsets of two ranked teams in Arizona kept the Pac-12 women’s basketball standings from featuring a three-way tie at the top.
A buzzer-beating putback by Penina Davidson, her only basket of the game, gave visiting California a 50-49 win over No. 10 Arizona State on Sunday.
Katie Hempen made a 3-pointer with 13.3 seconds left to put the Sun Devils ahead after they had rallied from a 14-point second half deficit.
Then Arizona scored the last 10 points of the game to shock No. 12 Stanford 60-57 in Tucson, ending the Wildcats’ 25-game losing streak to the Cardinal.
Candice Warthen scored seven of her 19 points during Arizona’s closing run to end a skid that dated back to February 2004.
Stanford lost back-to-back conference games for the first time since getting swept on its Los Angeles trip in January of 2008 and now have three conference losses for the first time since 2005-06.
