Defensive back Sergio Gilliam returning to Shock

Defensive back Sergio Gilliam is returning to the Spokane Shock.

Gilliam was the af2 rookie of the year and an all-af2 first-team member as he played a key role for the Shock in 2009, which ended with the af2 championship. He spent the last two seasons with the Pittsburgh Power. In 2014, Gilliam recorded 61 total tackles (52 solo, 18 assisted), three interceptions and 20 pass break-ups in 18 games. He has also played for the Kansas City, Arizona and Oklahoma City.

“Experience in the defensive secondary is invaluable in arena football,” said Shock coach Andy Olson.

The Shock open the season at defending champion Arizona on March 28. The home opener is April 4 against Philadelphia.
