Global warming hits skiing?

I can’t help but notice that this winter has been rainy and without much snow. Ever since 2011, the amount of snow has been decreasing at ski resorts in the Inland Northwest, with this year being the worst.

Schweitzer has the least amount of snow coverage that I have ever seen. The mountain had an average base depth of 45 inches last year, while this year their base depth is 21 inches. There has been wet, sticky and overgroomed snow this year, making it not worthwhile to go up to the mountain.

With it raining up on the mountains lately, it must mean that the ski season is coming to a close. This has to be bad for Schweitzer, and other mountains, because of loss in profits, shortage of water in the summer and increased fire danger. After this bad season, we can only wonder what next year will be like.

This really makes me wonder about global warming. In five years there might just be no more snow for skiing.
