Tyler McDowell drives in two runs with double for WSU baseball win

Tyler McDowell’s two-run double in the sixth inning gave Washington State the lead and the Cougars held on for a 4-3 nonconference baseball victory over Stephen F. Austin on Monday night at Jaycees Field in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Ian Hamilton came on to collect a four-out save to preserve the victory for the Cougars (2-2). SFA is 1-3.

Washington State trailed 3-2 after five innings before Pat McGrath drew a one-out walk, West Hatten was hit by a pitch and Shane Matheny was walked to load the bases and set the table for McDowell.

Leilanie Kim, the 2014 WAC champion, put together a 1-under 141 for 36 holes to tie for fourth and lead Idaho to victory in the weather-shortened, season-opening Delta Gamma Challenge in New Braunfels, Texas.

Idaho and Alabama-Little Rock were tied for first after Sunday at 7-over 575 but the tournament was called off early in Monday’s final round with temperatures in the mid-30s and wind gusts to 35 mph. The Vandals won the tiebreaker as its No. 5 golfer, Kendall Gray, shot 152, 16 better than UALR’s No. 5.
