Boys basketball: Central Valley rolls past Chiawana

Michael Hannan had 25 points and 11 rebounds and Cameron Tucker added 23 points and 15 boards as Central Valley pulled away in the second half and defeated Chiawana 73-61 in a 4A subregional elimination game Tuesday in Pasco.

Hannan scored 14 in the second quarter. CV led by two at the half, but used a 14-5 third-quarter run to take control.

The Bears (18-5), who won the rebounding battle 41-27, will play at University on Friday in another loser-out game. The Titans beat CV 50-48 on Feb. 12.

District 7 1A

Lakeside 63, Freeman 56: Dominique Watson scored 17 points, Cameron Gay had 13 and Ryan Quigley chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds as the Eagles (17-3) erased a 12-point halftime-deficit and beat the Scotties (12-9) at West Valley. Gunnar Swannack and Spencer Reynolds each added 10 rebounds for Lakeside. Freeman’s Jack Paukert scored a team-high 17 points and Ryan Maine added 15 points and nine rebounds. Lakeside will play Riverside in Friday’s title game at West Valley. Freeman will play Medical Lake in a loser-out game Friday at West Valley.

Riverside 61, Medical Lake 55: Tyler Axtell scored 21 points, including a few key free throws in the final minute, and the Rams (17-5) survived the Cardinals’ (16-5) spirited second-half rally and won at West Valley. Down by 18 at the half, Medical Lake used a 15-4 third-quarter run to make things interesting. Andrew Kramer added 18 points and Kevin Huggins chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds for Riverside. The Cardinals’ Tellas Johnson led all scorers with 25 points.

District 9 1B

Touchet 54, Colton 53 (OT): Colter McKeown scored 19 points, including a crucial 3-pointer late in overtime, to help power the Indians past the Wildcats (11-7) in Clarkston. Colton led by three late in the fourth, but Touchet’s Carlos Rincon came away with a steal and drained a game-tying 3-pointer with 8 seconds left to force overtime. Rincon finished with eight points. Touchet will play Liberty Christian in a loser-out game Friday in Clarkston. Grant Kinzer tallied a game-high 21 points for the Wildcats, who were eliminated.

Liberty Christian 44, St. John-Endicott 27: Chris Kelly scored 14 points and John Lesser added 11 as the Patriots took control in the first half and eased past the Eagles (8-13) in a loser-out game in Clarkston.
