Lakeside takes district

Cameron Gay scored 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting and Lakeside topped Riverside 69-56 in the District 7 1A boys basketball title game Friday night at West Valley.

The win gave the Eagles (19-3) the top seed to the regional round of the state tournament. The Rams (18-6) will play Freeman today at West Valley for the second and final seed.

Ryan Quigley added 18 points and nine rebounds for Lakeside, which held a 39-26 rebounding advantage. The win was the Eagles’ seventh straight.

Tyler Axtell led three Riverside players in double figures with 21 points.

Freeman 51, Medical Lake 48: Jack Paukert made four free throws in the final couple of minutes and the Scotties (13-10) held on to defeat the host Cardinals (16-7) in a loser-out game.

Paukert finished with 17 points and Ryan Maine added 16. Medical Lake used a 19-8 fourth-quarter rally to make things interesting. The Cardinals got 17 points from Tellas Johnson.

2B subregional

Wilbur-Creston 60, St. George’s 48: Colton Magers led four players in double figures with 16 points and the Wildcats (17-8) leaned on their defense to get past the Dragons (14-11) in a loser-out game in Walla Walla.

The win gave Wilbur-Creston a berth to the regional round of the state tournament. They Wildcats will play Walla Walla Valley Academy today at Whitman to determine the third and fourth seeds.

Wilbur-Creston’s Dorian Jaeger added 14 points and four steals and Nick Densley chipped in 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

St. George’s Cade Peplinski tallied a team-high 14 points.

District 9 1B

Garfield-Palouse 56, Pomeroy 36: Tyler Thurman led a balanced offensive attack with 13 points and the Vikings (20-1) raced past the Pirates (19-2) in the title game at Clarkston HS. The win gave the Vikings the top seed to the regional round of state.

Idaho 5A Region I

Lake City 62, Coeur d’Alene 42: Joe Pasquale made 6 of 7 3-pointers and scored 25 points to guide the Timberwolves (12-10) past the Vikings (13-8) at Lake City.

Post Falls 77, Lewiston 35: The Trojans (20-1) opened the game on a 20-5 run and dumped the visiting Bengals. Post Falls’ Max McCullough scored 17 points and Wyatt Millsap had 12.

Girls

District 7 1A

Lakeside 66, Colville 31: Jocelyn Cook-Cox scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and the Eagles (21-1) used a 26-5 second-quarter run to get past the Indians (13-10) in the title game at West Valley.

The win gave Lakeside the top seed to the regional round of the state tournament. Colville will play Medical Lake today at West Valley for the second and final seed.

The Cardinals advanced by beating Chewelah.

2B subregional

Northwest Christian 48, St. George’s 33: Courtney Gray had 16 points and 13 rebounds and the Crusaders (22-3) claimed a spot in the subregional round of state with a win over the Dragons (15-11) in Walla Walla.

NWC will play Lind-Ritzville/Sprague today at Whitman College to determine the third and fourth seeds. LRS advanced with a 65-36 win over Reardan.

Hailey Higashi led St. George’s with 14 points and eight rebounds.

District 9 1B

Colton 58, Touchet 54: Zoe Moser scored 13 of her team-high 26 points in the fourth quarter and the Wildcats (23-0) withstood the Indians’ late rally and beat Touchet in the District 9 1B title game in Clarkston. The win gave the Colton the top seed to the regional round of state.

Pomeroy 54, Oakesdale 39: Kacey Halbert made 8 of 9 free throws and scored 23 points and the Pirates stayed alive with a win over the host Nighthawks (14-9).
