Teen, who falsified name, faces more charges

Refusal to cooperate with police recently netted an additional criminal charge for a Spokane Valley teenager who was already in trouble.

The 16-year-old boy reportedly gave several false names to an officer around 1 p.m. Feb. 17 before he could be identified. He was arrested in the area of Maxwell Avenue and Myers Road on charges of obstructing justice, possession of marijuana (more than 40 grams), possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.

The teen, who is not being identified because of his age, was booked into the Juvenile Detention Facility.

Other calls from Feb. 16-23.

Feb. 17: A resident in the 23000 block of East Appleway Avenue reported that someone had broken into his vehicle early that morning. Nothing was reported missing. A caller reported seeing someone dump waste in the area of Mission Avenue and North Harvest Parkway. Pictures were taken of the vehicle involved.

Feb. 19: A caller reported that someone had scratched a swastika symbol into the sidewalk at East Sprague Avenue and North McKinzie Drive.

Feb. 21: Reports of suspicious vehicles were received from the 19000 block of East Cataldo Avenue. An officer determined that two security guards working in the same location had each called in the other’s vehicle as suspicious. A commercial burglary was reported in the 1200 block of North Liberty Lake Road. Someone apparently entered a vacant space and broke through the drywall into a business next door.

Arrests: Police made three arrests for driving with a suspended license and one for domestic violence assault.

Citations: Officers handed out two citations for expired vehicle registration. Additional citations were given for failure to show proof of liability insurance, improper tinting/coloring of windows, failure to obey a traffic control device and failure to stop at a stop sign.
