EWU  Eagles

COMING UP: Today vs. Weber St., 2 p.m.; Saturday vs. Idaho State, 2 p.m.

OUTLOOK: After posting the best nonconference record (9-4) in its 32-year history as a Division I school, Eastern will open the Big Sky Conference season today against the only team picked ahead of it in the preseason polls. A homecourt loss to Weber State in the final game of the regular season cost the Eagles a postseason berth last year. The defending BSC champ Wildcats (5-6) lost 85-51 at Oklahoma on Dec. 20. Weber has perhaps the conference’s dominant player in post Joel Bolomboy (13.1ppg, 10.1 rpg), who had 18 points and 13 boards in a 72-58 loss to LSU. On Saturday, the Eagles face Idaho State (3-9), which has lost its last four and has dropped two games to Utah Valley. Senior Chris Hansen averages 15.8 points.
