Post Falls defeats Pocatello in boys basketball

Jake Pfennigs led four players in double figures with 13 points and the Post Falls boys quickly erased an early five-point deficit and beat Pocatello 76-65 in a nonleague game Friday night in Boise.

The Trojans fell behind 19-14 after the first quarter, but got their offense going in the second quarter and took a two-point halftime lead.

Post Falls’ Dalton Thompson added 11 points and seven rebounds and Blake McLean and Zach Hillman each chipped in 11 points.

The Trojans, who made the 5A state tournament last year, are 11-1. Their only loss came against Washington 3A power Wilson (Tacoma) on Wednesday.

Lake City 43, Eastmont 32: Quinn Mitchell scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Timberwolves (5-4) pulled away late and beat the Wildcats in Coeur d’Alene. Brandon Dotson added nine points and Jerry Louis-McGee dished out seven assists for LC, which limited Eastmont to 30 percent shooting from the field.

Liberty 62, Waitsburg-Prescott 38: Match Burnham had 29 points and nine rebounds and Clay Fleming added 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Lancers (9-1) coasted past the Cardinals in Waitsburg. Liberty won the rebounding battle 41-22 and forced 22 turnovers.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 53, Dayton 29: Cort Ruzicka and Dylan Becker scored a combined 21 points and the Broncos (5-3) routed the host Bulldogs. Dayton’s Zach Waggoner had 19 points and six rebounds.

Northport 43, Columbia 25: Lino Belli scored 12 points and Patrick Lamb added eight points, 10 rebounds and three steals as the Mustangs (5-3) topped the Lions (0-7) at the Northport tournament. Northport will play Curlew in today’s title game.

Curlew 75, Priest River 54: Cody Grumbach made 9 of 12 shots and all six of his free throws and scored 25 points to guide the Cougars (8-1) past the Spartans (0-8) at the Northport tournament. Hunter Beedle added 14 points and Daniel Tresham chipped in 11 for Curlew, which shot 60 percent from the field. Priest River’s Alex Simpkins tallied a team-high 12 points.

Oakesdale 47, Selkirk 44: Tanner Dingman scored 13 of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Nighthawks (2-5) to a comeback win over the host Rangers (5-3) at Ione. Dingman hit three of his five 3-pointers in the final quarter to help Oakesdale erase a six-point deficit. Parker Perry added 18 points for the Nighthawks. Selkirk’s Cole Dawson tallied 15 points.

Girls

Lake City 66, Eastmont 30: Clarissa Smith scored 16 points and Lauren Rewers added 14 as the Timberwolves (12-2) dominated from the outset in an easy win over the Wildcats in Coeur d’Alene. LC’s Olivia Maryon added seven points and five assists and Nina Carlson pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Northport 47, Columbia 30: Ashtyn Baribault had 18 points and four steals and the Mustangs (1-6) pulled away in the second half and defeated the Lions (0-7) at the Northport tournament. It was Northport’s first win since the 2012-13 season.

Potlatch 51, Garfield-Palouse 45: Danicka Musick scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Loggers held on to beat the Vikings (1-6) in Palouse. Katie Arrasmith led Garfield-Palouse with 20 points and seven rebounds.

Oakesdale 43, Selkirk 32: Jacey Johnson scored a game-high 13 points and the visiting Nighthawks (4-3) beat the cold-shooting Rangers (2-6) and won in Ione. The Rangers made just 2 of 30 first-half shots. Selkirk’s Hannah Rick tallied 10 points.
