Andrea Nelson Harrison, a BYU senior from Shadle Park, completed her collegiate cross country career this fall with an armload of honors.
Harrison, a two-time state high school champion (4A as a sophomore, 3A as a junior) running with her maiden name, Andrea Nelson, earned first-team All-West Coast Conference and All-Mountain Region honors with fourth-place finishes in the two championship meets. She timed 19 minutes, 55.2 seconds in the 6K WCC meet and 21:07.5 in the 6K Mountain Regionals.
BYU’s top runner all season and team captain, Harrison finished 46th in her second appearance in the NCAA Division I championships, timing 20:50.7 for 6K. She was 86th in 2013 as a junior.
She also stood out in the classroom, earning first-team WCC All-Academic honors for compiling a 3.51 grade-point average while majoring in family, home and social sciences.
Randi Loudin and Mary Maystrovich led the showing by a small contingent of Spokane Junior Rifle Club members at the Idaho State Championship 3-position gallery match last month at the Sandpoint Rifle Club. Loudin, 18, of Post Falls, was high Junior and second overall with a score of 551 out of 600 in the small-bore (0.22) event where competitors got 20 shots each from 50 feet in prone, standing and kneeling positions. The match winner was a senior who shot 552. Maystrovich, 15, of Northwest Christian, was first in Marksman with a 539. SJRC teammate Aidan Maddox, 15, Riverpoint Academy, was second with a 532. Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry resurrected the Idaho State Championships this year that had reportedly been dormant for more than a dozen years.
