Whose pockets dredged?

Perhaps Glen Squires (Dec. 28) can tell us where the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will find a place to dispose of the massive volumes of silt material (mud) that is continuously being dredged from the artificially created shipping channel in the Snake River to serve the Port of Lewiston. Or perhaps not.

When disposing of additional dredged material within conveniently situated nearby riparian areas in the Snake River Valley becomes impracticable or impossible, which is inevitable, will the Corps be compelled to haul it to upland areas with trucks? And who is paying the huge costs of this shipping channel maintenance? The barge companies? The grain growers, timber harvesters and other shippers? The American taxpayers?
