Died Former New York Giants football coach Allie Sherman, the diminutive son of Russian immigrants, has died. He was 91. Sherman coached the Giants to NFL championship games in his first three seasons. His Giants lost to the Green Bay Packers in the 1961 and 1962 championship games and to the Chicago Bears in the 1963 title game. He was the NFL Coach of the Year in 1961 and 1962 and finished 57-51-4 in eight seasons with the Giants.

Rejected Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver has had an initial takeover offer for financially troubled Scottish soccer club Rangers rejected. The club said in a statement to the London Stock Exchange that Sarver’s bid of 18 million pounds ($27.4 million) does not “adequately value a controlling interest,” but added it invites him “to work with other supporters to help find a solution to Rangers’ financial problems.”

Forwarded The police investigation into allegations that NASCAR driver Kurt Busch assaulted his ex-girlfriend has been finished and forwarded to Delaware state prosecutors to decide whether charges will be filed. Busch’s ex-girlfriend, Patricia Driscoll, says Busch choked her and smashed her head into a wall inside his motorhome at Dover International Speedway in September.

Announced Former No. 1 player in the world David Duval is joining Golf Channel as a studio analyst for some of the biggest tournaments. He has been coping with injuries the better part of the last decade and can no longer rely on good health. Duval says this is a way for him to stay involved in a game he loves.

Agreed A federal appeals court has given the green light to a lawsuit by former NFL players against video game maker Electronic Arts over the use of their avatars in the company’s Madden NFL series. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with a lower court that rejected Electronic Art’s motion to dismiss the case. The 9th Circuit said EA was not likely to prevail in its argument that use of the former players’ likenesses was incidental.
