Released Three-time world heavyweight champion, Muhammad Ali was released from an undisclosed hospital after being hospitalized Since Dec. 20 with a severe urinary tract infection, a family spokesman said. Ali is back home and looking forward to celebrating his 73rd birthday Jan. 17 with family and friends, the spokesman said.

Announced Major League Baseball’s spring training schedule is slated to start when the Philadelphia Phillies host the University of Tampa on March 1 in Clearwater, Florida. The Seattle Mariners will open their 2015 spring schedule by hosting the San Diego Padres in Peoria, Arizona, on March 4.

• Major League Soccer is adding two teams to its playoffs, realigning the conferences and welcoming two new franchises, the Orlando City FC and New York City FC. The league announced the schedule for its 20th regular season, with the opener March 6 as Chicago visits the champion Los Angeles Galaxy. The Sounders will open the season in Seattle vs. New England on March 8.

Hired Former St. Louis Rams and New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is moving back to the college ranks to direct Georgia’s offense. Georgia coach Mark Richt announced that Schottenheimer also will coach the Bulldogs’ quarterbacks.

Jesse Marsch is in and Mike Petke is out as the coach of the New York Red Bulls. New York announced that Petke would not return for the 2015 season despite leading the team to the playoffs in each of his two seasons and the league’s best regular-season record in 2013.

Withdrawn Still hampered by an injury to his right forearm, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has pulled out of the Australian Open. The 12th-ranked Frenchman struggled with the injury during France’s loss to Switzerland in the Davis Cup final in November.

Added Florida has added former Stanford forward Schuyler Rimmer as a walk-on. The 6-foot-10 Rimmer left Stanford in December after scoring eight points in 16 games.
