GSL wrestling: Central Valley edges Mt. Spokane

Christen Hill defeated Cade Neumann 3-2 at 120 pounds Thursday as host Central Valley edged Mt. Spokane 29-27 in Greater Spokane League wrestling.

Both teams won seven matches, but the victorious Bears (5-1) had three pins while the Wildcats (3-2) had three major decisions.

CV’s Kyle Neal (145) pinned Jentry Shumaker in 3 minutes, 6 seconds.

The Wildcats picked up wins by Garrett Johnson at 285, Jacob Howerton at 106 and Reiner Schauer at 113 to take a 27-26 lead into the final match.

The Bears are tied for first place with Mead, while idle University (4-1) is just behind. CV will host U-Hi on Jan. 28 in the final GSL match for both.

League competition continues Tuesday with Gonzaga Prep at North Central (2-3).

Wednesday’s schedule is CV at Lewis and Clark (3-2), Ferris at U-Hi, Rogers at Mead and Shadle Park at Mt. Spokane.

Ferris 51, Rogers 24: The Saxons (2-4) won the first five matches en route to a victory over the visiting Pirates (0-6). Ferris’ Elijah Ross (160) rallied from a 4-3 first-round deficit for a 10-5 decision. The Saxons’ Jacob Stirpe (106) recorded a pin in 28 seconds.

Mead 57, Gonzaga Prep 19: The Panthers (5-1) recorded eight pins on their way to a triumph over the host Bullpups (0-4). Mead began the night with Brock Fickle’s pin at 106. Ray Valdez (120) and Daery Alderman (160) also picked up pins for the Panthers.
