The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards: Yes, the Oscars are more prestigious, but the Globes, which honor achievement in both film and television, are much more fun, thanks to the event’s laid-back (and booze-fueled) attitude. SUNDAY: It’s back to school for “Girls.” As Season 4 opens, aspiring author Hannah (Lena Dunham) heads off to a master’s program at the prestigious Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Unfortunately, she and Adam (Adam Driver) aren’t handling the change so well. 9 p.m., HBO.
SUNDAY: A prison stay has done nothing to slow down Marty (Don Cheadle) on “House of Lies.” As Season 4 launches, he’s in hyperdrive, resolving to go global with his consultant company and grow bigger than ever. 10 p.m., Showtime.
MONDAY: “Eye Candy” is an alluring new thriller that delves into the dark side of technology. It focuses on a computer expert (Victoria Justice) who begrudgingly gets into online dating and suspects that one of her suitors might be a deadly cyber stalker. 10 p.m., MTV.
MONDAY: “Castle” returns with a fresh episode that has Richard (Nathan Fillion) taking an online course to become a private investigator. It leads to a competition with Beckett (Stana Katic) to see who can solve a case faster. 10 p.m., ABC.
TUESDAY: Alas, the end is near for the beloved sitcom “Parks and Recreation,” which kicks off its final season with back-to-back episodes. The entire season will find Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) and her Pawnee posse living in the year 2017. 8 p.m., NBC.
WEDNESDAY: Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson return for more fun as the wacky, deliciously bizarre comedy “Broad City” returns for its second season. We’re doubled over in mirth already. 10:30 p.m., Comedy Central.
THURSDAY: Our suspicions have been confirmed: Awards shows really are going to the dogs. Yes, it’s the World Dog Awards, an inaugural special designed to celebrate man’s best friend with categories such as Top TV Dog, Most Pawpular and Celebrity Dog Selfie. George Lopez hosts. 8 p.m., The CW.
THURSDAY: What’s that? You’re want even more shiny trophies? Brace yourself for the 20th annual Critics Choice Movie Awards, which should feature its share of fancy duds and gasbag speeches. 9 p.m., A&E.
FRIDAY: Inspired by the 1995 Bruce Willis-Brad Pitt film, “12 Monkeys” is a sci-fi thriller about a time traveler (Aaron Stanford) who journeys from 2043 to the present day. His mission? To stop a deadly plague that will decimate the human race. 9 p.m., Syfy.
SATURDAY: Whitney Houston is gone but not forgotten. “Whitney,” a TV film directed by Angela Bassett, pays homage to the late R&B diva (Yaya DaCosta) by recalling the early years of her tumultuous relationship with Bobby Brown (Arlen Escarpeta). 8 p.m., Lifetime.
