Second Harvest launches milk drive

Starting today, Second Harvest is running its first “Give A Gallon” milk drive.

Proceeds provide fresh milk donations to families and seniors who rely on food banks.

The drive runs through Tuesday at all Yoke’s Fresh Markets. Customers are invited to pick up a scan tag at special display stands inside stores. Milk purchases will be distributed to Second Harvest, which supplies food to a network of 250 food banks and meal programs.

Shoppers that “Give a Gallon” will receive a Dairy Farmers of Washington travel mug while supplies last.

Applesauce Bundt Cake

Reader Frances Thomas was recently looking for an old Dorothy Dean recipe for Applesauce Bundt Cake. She remembered it called for cocoa, which helped make the recipe easier to find. It had been reprinted on June 26, 1984, about a year after the newspaper discontinued its homemakers service.

Thomas retired 21 years ago this month from The Spokesman-Review after 32 years in the newspaper’s advertising department.

In case anyone else was looking for the same cake recipe, it can be found inside today’s Food section on page C3.
