GSL boys basketball: Titans put end to Pirates’ six-game winning streak

Austin Dill led a balanced scoring attack with 17 points and University had its offense rolling early and handed Rogers its second Greater Spokane League loss of the season, 68-58, Tuesday night at Rogers.

The Titans (10-2, 8-2) made 11 of 12 shots from the floor in the first quarter and took a 25-17 lead, then withstood several Pirate rallies throughout the rest of the game.

University’s Spencer Matt added 13 points and Robert Little chipped in 12.

Rogers’ Melik Hampton had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Robert Rucker also had 19 points.

The loss snapped Rogers’ six-game winning streak.

The Pirates (9-3, 8-2) beat Univeristy 72-70 in both teams’ season-opener on Dec. 2.

Gonzaga Prep 54, Lewis and Clark 51: Brandon Bieber scored 12 points and Nick Wood added 10 as the Bullpups (7-5, 6-4) used a 14-5 second-quarter run to gain the upper hand and held off the Tigers’ second-half charge in a win at Lewis and Clark.

Gonzaga Prep made 25 of 36 free throws.

Lewis and Clark (9-3, 7-3) outscored Gonzaga Prep 37-30 in the second half, but couldn’t quite rally back from a 10-point halftime deficit.

The Tigers’ Isaiah Hernandez tallied a game-high 19 points in a game that had 53 fouls and five players foul out.

Ferris 64, Mt. Spokane 35: Mike Ervin scored 17 points and Jace Van Lierop and Shamrock Campbell added 13 apiece as the Saxons (5-7, 3-7) dumped the visiting Wildcats (1-10, 1-8).

Ferris outscored Mt. Spokane 19-7 in the first quarter and extended its lead from there.

The Wildcats’ Sam Stiles tallied a team-high 10 points.

Central Valley 68, North Central 37: Michael Hannan had 21 points, six rebounds and six steals as the Bears (10-2, 8-2) routed the visiting Indians (1-11, 0-10).

Central Valley turned 21 North Central turnovers into 24 points. The Bears committed just five turnovers of their own.

CV’s Tanner Sloan added 13 points. North Central’s Damien Carter tallied a team-high seven points.

Mead 59, Shadle Park 55: Max Hess scored eight of his game-high 22 points in the first quarter and the Panthers (6-6, 4-6) fended off the Highlanders’ late charge in a win at Mead.

Mead’s Josh Ritcher added 17 points and hit a free throw with 9 seconds left to give the Panthers a four-point cushion. Brandon Pettersen added 11 points and 12 rebounds for Mead.

Shadle Park’s Kylan Kelley scored 11 points,

The Highlanders (7-5, 5-5) outscored Mead 16-11 in the fourth.
