Prep roundup: Mt. Spokane wins four-way gymnastics meet

Jade Anderson tied for first place with Ferris’ Jessica Harpel in the all-around Wednesday and led Mt. Spokane to the team win during a four-way Greater Spokane League gymnastics meet at North Central.

Anderson and Harpel scored 35.300 points to outdistance three Mt. Spokane gymnasts in the top five of the all-around.

The Wildcats (160.375) cruised past Shadle Park (127.975), host NC (126.150) and Ferris (126.050).

Harpel won the balance beam (8.650) and vault (9.25) while Anderson placed second in all four events. Mt. Spokane sophomore Reigan Kampmann won the uneven bars (9.0) and floor exercise (9.250) to place third in the all-around at 33.700.

Medical Lake 36, Cheney 35: Cory Wagner’s last-second shot allowed the host Cardinals (8-3) to rally from a 10-point, third-quarter deficit and hand the Blackhawks (4-9) their fifth consecutive loss. ML’s Tellas Johnson scored eight of his 12 points in the fourth quarter. Cheney’s Riley Jones scored 12 points.

Cheney 30, Medical Lake 22: Kendyl Cone scored 11 points as the Blackhawks (5-8) defeated the host Cardinals (3-8) to snap a four-game losing streak.

Mead 46, Rogers 19: The host Panthers (6-1) won 10 of 14 matches to defeat the Pirates (0-7) in the Little Brown Jug competition and remain tied for first place with Central Valley. Mead’s Brock Fickle (106) pinned Broc Hauser in 23 seconds. Rogers’ Shawn Plumb pinned Jordan Beckley in overtime.

Central Valley 44, Lewis and Clark 24: Bryson Beard (126), Blake Beard (132) and Bridger Beard (145) all won early matches to give the Bears (6-1) a 19-6 lead, igniting a win over the host Tigers (3-3). LC’s Kaden Templeton (182) defeated Chauncye Garrigon 4-3 in the tightest match.

University 46, Ferris 27: Cameron Swanson (113) and Max Clark (126) both registered pins in 47 seconds as the host Titans (5-1) topped the Saxons (2-5). U-Hi’s Kavan Nielson (132) added a 55-second pin.

Mt. Spokane 38, Shadle Park 27: Alec Huber (126) opened the meet with a pin and his brother Andrew (132) followed with a 10-1 win to launch the host Wildcats (4-2) past the Highlanders (2-3). Mt. Spokane’s Morgan Ruegsegger (152) pinned Bryden Uyehara at 4:38.

Great Northern League

East Valley 72, Pullman 0: The host Knights (3-0) piled up 54 points on pins and forfeits and swept every match against the Greyhounds (0-2). East Valley’s Isaiah Ervin (126) defeated Cole Dahman 5-4 in the closest match.
