We are in it together
Logan neighborhood reader boards remind us of our shared humanity. Donut Parade’s sandwich board reads, “I am Charlie.” The Logan Elementary reader board says “Darkness shows me the stars.” McDonald’s displays “A little more love can change a lot.”
Logan neighborhood’s call for community, compassion and unity reminds me of the placard “We are in it together” included in The Spokesman-Review many years ago. In this time of isolation, fear and divisiveness, let us remember we are all in it together. I am connected to you; you are connected to me, as individuals, as the Logan neighborhood is connected, as are each of us in Spokane, to each one in our nation, and to all in our world.
We can join together, remembering each one’s humanness, young or old, able or challenged, all races, all genders, all economic levels. We are one another, traveling the journey of life, which requires us to live with courage, compassion and responsibility. All traditions call us to remember, and to live that ideal.
Thank you, Logan neighborhood, for your call. As we move into 2015 and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, let us turn toward one another, turning our backs on no one, none.
