NHL hands Blackhawks’ Daniel Carcillo six-game suspension

 (Associated Press)

The NHL has lowered the boom on the Chicago Blackhawks’ Daniel Carcillo.

The veteran winger was suspended six games by the league Monday for a cross-check that injured Winnipeg Jets forward Matheiu Perreault (pictured) during Friday night’s game at the United Center in Chicago.

It is the ninth suspension of Carcillo’s nine-season career and will cost him $40,243.92 in salary.

The veteran waived his right to an in-person hearing and instead spoke with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety via phone Monday.

On Saturday, Carcillo called the incident during which he drilled an unsuspecting Perreault in the left arm with a two-handed cross-check, “just kind of a hockey play. I didn’t think it was very, like, malicious or anything, you know?” Carcillo said.

The NHL didn’t agree and hit Carcillo with the lengthy suspension.
