Obituary: Pinto, Gilbert

Age 98

PINTO, Gilbert (Age 98) Born July 30, 1916 in Alameda, California.

His earthly journey ended on January 15, 2015.

While attending Petaluma High School, Gilbert excelled in football, music, playing trumpet and guitar, and also earned his Eagle Scout badge.

Graduating in 1934, he attended Marin Jr. College one year on a football scholarship.

In 1941 he was drafted and served six years in England, Germany and Belgium during World War II.

While in Germany he met Mignon Ebner who he later married.

To this union, was born a son, Bruce, a daughter, RaMona Mary, and a son, Rene Gilbert.

After that marriage ended, he married Edith Brown, becoming stepfather to her nine children.

He had retired from the Air Force in 1964 and then worked for the USPS, retiring again in 1984.

Gil and Edith loved to travel seeing much of the country while visiting family and Elderhostel programs.

They also took two trips to Europe.

Gil was devoted to his dogs, but loved all animals.

He continued to play the guitar and harmonica, and was an avid Seahawks fan.

His smile and laugh were contagious and will be missed by everyone who knew him!

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Bruce, son Rene, son-in-law Larry Pickle, stepson David Brown, and grandson Derric Brown.

He is survived by Edith, the love of his life for 40 years; his daughter, RaMona; and stepchildren, J.D.

(Missy), Diane, Shirley (Dan), Ken (Shirley), Joanne (Greg), Jack (Maria), Roy, and Ginger; 22 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.

He also leaves many who called him Uncle Gil and friend.

Funeral Service will be held 10AM, Friday, January 23, 2015 at Spokane Friends Church, 1612 W. Dalke, a graveside service will follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Spokane Humane Society, Spokane Friends Meeting, Caritas, or charity of your choice.
