Red Pollard’s saddle auctioned for more than $104,000

Seabiscuit jockey Red Pollard’s race-worn saddle from the famed champion racehorse has sold for $104,260, Lelands auction house announced Tuesday. Horseshoes worn by Seabiscuit during his 1938 match race victory over Triple Crown winner War Admiral and his famed 1940 Santa Anita Handicap win fetched $35,311. The complete 28-lot collection of Seabiscuit memorabilia brought nearly $200,000. The auction also featured the personal collection of baseball’s Lou Brock ($75,475), a James Naismith signed 1893 basketball handbook ($17,686) and a cap worn by Boston great Ted Williams ($9,727). – AP
