Felon’s leap out second-story window starts police chase

Suspects jump through windows to escape all the time in movies, but it’s something that Liberty Lake Police Chief Brian Asmus rarely sees on the job.

On Friday, however, a convicted felon took a leap through a second-story window in his attempt to escape police. He was unsuccessful and is in the Spokane County Jail facing multiple charges.

Employees at the Quality Inn and Suites at 2327 N. Madson Road called police just after 12:30 p.m. on Friday to report that a man had stolen a master key and was using it to enter rooms and steal items.

An officer arrived and was speaking to the man in a second-story room when the man took the plunge through a window. “He didn’t really hesitate,” said Asmus, who watched the officer’s body camera recording of the incident. “He just jumped shoulder first through the window.”

The man received numerous cuts but was able to stick the landing well enough to get up and run away. The officer caught up with him at R&R RV and arrested him, Asmus said. The officer reportedly found two loaded gun magazines and 38 grams of methamphetamine on the man and a loaded handgun was found nearby, Asmus said.

Levi J. Pogue, 22, is being held on a $20,000 bond on charges of first-degree burglary, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver.
