Three Spokane homes listed on National Register of Historic Places

Three Spokane homes have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places after being accepted to the Washington Heritage Register in October.

They are the Kiesow-Gentsch House, 618 W. 23rd Ave.; the Seligman House, 2203 S. Manito Blvd.; and the Canfield House at 1301 N. Sherwood St.

The Canfield House is a 1908 Craftsman-style home that shows Japanese influence on its roof line, which is reminiscent of a pagoda. The home is also on the Spokane Register of Historic Places and is located in the historic Sherwood Addition in northwest Spokane.

The Seligman House is another Craftsman-style home built in 1907 by renowned early-day architect Kirtland Cutter (Davenport Hotel, Spokane Club) and his partner, Karl Malmgren. The house went on the Spokane register in 2006.

The Kiesow-Gentsch House, also a Craftsman, was built in 1912 and designed by architect Joseph T. Levesque. It went onto the Spokane register in 2013. The interior is filled with exquisite oak woodwork, none of which has been painted over.

All three homes were recently accepted to the national register by the U.S. Department of Interior, according to the Washington state Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation.
