Few: No. 3 Gonzaga needs ‘toughness amped up’ for physical Pacific

No. 3 Gonzaga (19-1, 8-0 WCC) entertains Pacific (10-10, 2-6) on Saturday at 5 at McCarthey Athletic Center. The Zags have won 12 straight, the latest a 68-47 rout of Saint Mary’s on Thursday that leaves GU alone in first place in the conference. Junior guard Eric McClellan, who had been sidelined by a foot injury, made his GU debut. He scored two points and had an assist in five minutes. Pacific lost 72-69 to Portland on Alec Wintering’s last-second 3-pointer. Sophomore guard T.J. Wallace leads the Tigers in scoring (13.2) and rebounding (6.0). Junior guard Dulani Robinson chips in 10.4 points per game. “Both games (last season) were physical games,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few said. “In short prep, they’re a real system team and run a lot of sets so it’ll be impossible to go over all of them. We’ll just have to guard with our (defensive) concepts and get our toughness amped up.”
