Cheney schools need support
I am a pastor in Airway Heights with church members who have children attending schools in the Cheney School District. I am also a member of the Parks and Recreation Department, as well as the vice president of the Kiwanis Club. Being a Cheney graduate, I know that voter support of bonds and levies is crucial to sustaining high quality programs.
I’m writing in support of both the levy and bond measures proposed by Cheney Public Schools. Bonds are for buildings, technology and security improvements. Levies are for learning, educational programs, staff and supplies. The 2015-2021 bond issues are to modernize and replace the district’s oldest and least efficient buildings, upgrade technology, improve safety and security, and allow for improvement projects at all schools.
Right now, with your vote by Feb. 10, we have the opportunity to enhance educational opportunities for children. We need 180 new classrooms to meet projected enrollment growth and educate all children. Let’s not make the same shortsighted mistakes that other districts have made by neglecting their schools. Please vote to approve the two measures.
