Second-half rally sparks Saxons

After one half, the Ferris Saxons girls basketball team had all it could handle from the visiting Shadle Park Highlanders.

The Saxons gathered themselves the final two quarters to pull away for a 68-46 win in Greater Spokane League play Friday.

Ferris led 29-28 at halftime, but the Saxons (6-10 overall, 6-8 league) poured it on in the second half, outscoring Shadle (3-13, 3-11) 39-18.

Lexi Erickson led Ferris with 21 points and eight rebounds, Bria Bowton had 15 points and six assists and Megan Muelheim had 11 points, as the Saxons snapped a three-game losing streak.

Shyla Carr led Shadle with 20 points and seven rebounds.

Gonzaga Prep 76, North Central 23: The top-ranked Bullpups (16-0, 14-0) started hot and never cooled off against the visiting Indians (1-15, 1-13). G-Prep got out to a 31-5 lead after the first quarter. Laura Stockton led the Bullpups with 15 points, eight assists and seven steals and Tayler Drynan had a season-high 14 points on perfect shooting – 4 for 4 from the field and 6 of 6 from the foul line, as G-Prep won its 36th straight. Oona Harrington added 16 points.

Lewis and Clark 72, Rogers 46: Riley Lupfer paced the Tigers (12-4, 11-3) with 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists against the visiting Pirates (1-15, 0-14). Teammate Michaela Kay added 22 points, including six 3-pointers, and Brooklyn Howlett scored 12. Loretta Guertin led Rogers with 20 points, while Makala Peterson added 16.

Mead 59, Mt. Spokane 37: The visiting Panthers (11-5, 10-4), with 11 players scoring, used their size to hold off the smaller Wildcats (7-9, 5-9). Sue Winger led the Panthers with 13 points.
