Back diplomacy with Iran

The only country that can prevent Iran from developing a nuclear bomb is Iran. The United States’ best chance to influence Iran is through diplomacy.

The priority is to see the U.S. government engage in diplomacy that will help bring Iran back into the fold of the international community and prevent the country from acquiring nuclear weapons. The next few months are critical. Negotiators have until March to reach a political agreement and until June 30 to complete the technical aspects of the negotiations.

If the negotiations collapse, the U.S. and Iran would be back on a path toward confrontation. A successful agreement, on the other hand, could prevent war and nuclear weapons proliferation, and help resolve conflicts in Iraq, Syria and elsewhere in the region.

I hope that Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, along with Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, will speak out in support of diplomacy with Iran and against new sanctions that could sabotage a final deal.
