Obituary: Luce, Donald “Don”

LUCE, Donald “Don” (Age 79) Don Luce, son of Charles Willis and Leta Lee Luce, died peacefully on January 7, 2015 after a brief stay in Hospice of Spokane.

Don was 79 years old and is survived by Donna, his wife of 56 years; son Scott Luce (Terri); daughter Jennifer Bush Luce (Scott); daughter Michelle Luce, and four beloved grandchildren: Nichole Luce, and Owen, Lucas and Elliot Bush.

A lifelong resident of Spokane, Don was a North Central High School graduate and worked at The Spokesman-Review as Circulation District Manager for 43 years.

And while he was nothing if not a creature of habit, he managed to break out his much beloved routines of bike riding and water aerobics (and at times an almost daily maple bar) to enjoy traveling and seeing the world with his wife Donna.

Sadly, with regard to the maple bar, none of his children inherited his stellar metabolism.

He was a member of Friendship Force, Muzzle Loaders of the Spokane Rifle Club and he loved to hunt and fish.

Aside from those few years when he had three teenagers living at home, Don always had a smile, a spring in his step and an uncanny sense of direction.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, a kind and funny man who will be mightily missed by his family and his many friends.

There’s a big ache in our hearts to have to say good-bye.

A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Heritage Funeral Home in Spokane www.heritagefunerals.com.
