GSL girls basketball: CV defeats LC, grabs second place

Megan Dimmler got a steal and was fouled with 4.6 seconds left with the key Central Valley-Lewis and Clark girls basketball game still undecided.

Dimmler made both ends of an one-and-one to lift Central Valley out of a two-way tie for second with the Tigers, 60-56, in Greater Spokane League play Tuesday.

The win puts CV (14-3 overall, 12-3 in league) all alone in second with three games remaining. LC (12-5, 11-4) slipped into a tie for third with Mead.

Freshman Lexie Hull led CV with 21 points and Madison Hovren had 20 – leaving her 50 points away from becoming the league’s all-time career scoring leader. Both players had eight rebounds each.

Riley Lupfer led LC with 21 points and Michaela Kay had 15.

Gonzaga Prep 62, University 25: The Bullpups (17-0, 15-0) ran their winning streak to 40, surging to a 39-11 lead by halftime against the visiting Titans (10-7, 9-6). The Bullpups shot 57 percent from the field and were led by Laura Stockton’s 19 points and five assists. Otiona Gildon had 18 points and five rebounds for the Bullpups.

Mead 58, Rogers 43: The Panthers (12-5, 11-4) got out to a 38-14 lead by intermission against the visiting Pirates (1-16, 0-15). Coreen Labish led balanced Mead with 12 points and 12 rebounds. All 11 Panthers who played scored. Talia Felice and Loretta Guertin had 12 points apiece for Rogers.

Shadle Park 59, Mt. Spokane 47: The Highlanders (4-13, 4-11) pulled away in the final two quarters against the visiting Wildcats (7-10, 5-10). Shyla Carr had 21 points and Abby Bauernfeind had 11 to lead Shadle. Ari Newcomb and Jaidyn Lyman had 11 apiece for the Wildcats.

Ferris 72, North Central 45: Jamie Tatko had a career high 19 points to lead the Saxons (7-10, 7-8) past the visiting Indians (1-16, 1-14). Bria Bowton added 15 points, six rebounds and six steals. Jasmine Tonasket led NC with 11 points.
